Educational Therapy, Coaching, & Support
We view educational therapy and coaching as a collaborative relationship that supports and pushes you to become the best version of yourself as possible. We have the experience to understand the intricate challenges that arise from being a teenager and young adult while pursuing education in middle school, high school, and college. We’ve got your back.
Transforming your Performance
Strands of Educational Therapy & Coaching with Potentia
Goal Setting and Performance Coaching
-
Each term we establish meaningful goals to move towards, and then focus on identifying concrete, action-oriented steps that you can take to make success feel achievable as we look at your academics. Regular accountability is the best way to stay on track. We also use assessments and collaboration to drive our strategy and chart your growth.
ADHD and Executive Function
-
Executive Functions refers to an intertwined set of skills that we use everyday to manage ourselves as we pursue and eventually achieve a goal. Whether it’s getting dressed in the morning or passing a tricky class, this is what the fabric of success in the modern world is built out of. We specialize in coaching students with ADHD and building these crucial executive function skills to succeed in today’s academic and professional landscape. Additionally, we teach these skills in the context of the real world, not out of a workbook; in a process we call 'Applied Executive Function Training'
Academic Support
-
We help you identify, plan for, manage, and ultimately conquer the challenges that rigorous academics pose. We will join you in the trenches and support with scheduling, strategizing, prepping for an exam, self-advocating, or even initiating the first chunk of that overwhelming assignment; it’s better as a team. We will teach you the skills to gain confidence and independence, and then help you implement them as you grow.
Methods and Theory
-
We utilize methods from ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), MI (Motivational Interviewing), and psychology to maximize your academic skills, performance, and understanding of yourself. We do not have a one-size-fits-all approach; and we custom fit our coaching relationship and trajectory to your needs.
More Than Academics
-
Typically academics are the starting point of our discussion (and sometimes it will stay there), but frequently we find that academic performance is symptomatic of what is happening outside of academics. Your sleep, diet, exercise, routines, habits, and social-life will all contribute to your performance. We also know that you don't exist in a vacuum and teach the valuable communication skills to collaborate with your parents or family, and turn them into your allies.
Relationship and Trust
-
During each session we focus on building the relationship in order to effectively collaborate on the pursuit of your goals. The partnership with your coach and educational therapist gives you a safe place to be honest about the daily challenges you face and experience. It’s useful to have an ally.
